From an R&D perspective the aim of GEMOM is to research, develop and deploy a prototype of a messaging platform that is self-organising, self healing and provides secure end to end transactions. GEMOM is resilient and able to utilise redundant modules (hot-swap or switchover) instantaneously without information loss. All these features allow specialist, independent system actors such as watch-dogs, security/situation monitors, routers, and optimisers to remove or replace compromised nodes from the broader network instantly without compromising higher level functionality. GEMOM offers a messaging infrastructure which will enable far cheaper solutions as there is no need for heavy investment into infrastructure and assurance against security vulnerabilities and erroneous input vulnerabilities.

The goal of DIADEM is to provide an adaptable web browser interface, to enable people who suffer a reduction of cognitive skills, to remain active and independent members of society. This will be achieved by developing an Expert System (ES) that, monitors the user, adapting and personalising the computer interface to enable people to interact with web based forms. This system will be located on the user's PC and will ensure that the many services available over the Internet are open and accessible to as many people as possible, whilst providing privacy and security. The technology will also be extended into the work place enabling people to be in more control of their working environment and their working life.

FASTeTEN, will examine how the FAST (Fournisseur d'Accès Sécurisés Transactionnels or Secure Access Gateway) secure electronic document exchange system, developed in France, can be deployed for the benefit of administrations and citizens across Europe. In order to do this, FASTeTEN is preparing two pilot deployments; in educational services in the city of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and in eProcurement in the region of Valencia, Spain. FASTeTEN will streamline the administration of certain aspects of these public services by introducing applications that will allow secure, fully trackable electronic document exchange. This is expected to result in considerable time, effort and money savings. The potential deployers' group includes public authorities from Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Malta and Spain.

The CERTISERV system is designed as a set of services enabling public authorities to interact with their counterparts (businesses, residential, other international, national, regional and local governmental institutions) electronically in a secure and trusted way as well as in a seamless, smooth and easy way (transmitting different formats via different protocols). The introduction of the CERTISERV system will therefore directly contribute to the modernisation and the significant increase of efficiency of public services (central objectives of the eEurope Action Plan 2005). The project aims at the objectives of the eTEN programme under the Theme 5 (Trust and Security).
